BILL SLATER TEAMS COMPETITION

Bill Slater team

A team from Manx Gymnastics Centre of Excellence travelled to Kent recently with their coach Amanda Keating to compete in the Women’s Artistic Bill Slater Club Team Championships.  The girls – Holly Black, Ciara Goddard, Isabel Hester, Radha Patel and Madison Nicol – were up against some strong competition from the other 22 competing teams which represented clubs from all over the UK.

First up on the day was Ciara Goddard on the beam, performing a clean and steady routine and achieving the highest score on this piece for the team.  Radha Patel’s beam was also executed smoothly   but errors from the others proved to be costly to the team’s score on this unforgiving apparatus.

The floor routines were all delivered with aplomb with some lovely routines being displayed. Complex tumbling from Holly Black, who incorporated a one and a half twist backwards in to her routine; and a beautifully presented routine from the youngest team member Madison Nicol set the girls up nicely for their next apparatus.

The vault proved to be no problem to the Manx team and they all performed excellently, making this their highest scoring piece of the day. High standard vaults were accomplished all round, with Radha, Ciara and Isabel pulling off the impressive tsukahara with ease.

The final apparatus of the day – the uneven bars – was a disappointment to some of the girls with nerves kicking in as they showcased their new requirements on this piece, and a nervous Isabel Hester fell from the bars as she tested a new move on this demanding apparatus. Radha finished off the competition with a lovely routine, which left the girls pleased with their day at the Europa Gymnastics Centre.

Events such as these are a fantastic platform for the gymnasts to gain experience, try out their new moves and routines in a competitive environment and be inspired by the other gymnasts. Fabulous team spirit and camaraderie from the Manx Gymnastics team was prevalent throughout the trip, making this a thoroughly enjoyable competition.

Thanks to team coach Amanda Keating.
