Recrational & Schools gymnasts shine

The Isle of Man gymnastics association’s General gymnastics competition held at the Ellan Vannin Gymnastics club last weekend was a resounding success.

Somewhere near 200 gymnasts took part in the competition based on the levels schemes of achievement scheme and thanks must go to Shimmin Wilson & Co. for their wonderful support of the competition and the badge scheme which runs in connection it.

Fir the first time an integrated schools section was held within the competition resulting in the Island’s first ever Island Schools level champions being crowned. These were in Level 9 Phillippa Malarkey and in level 8 Ben Lyon both of of Scooil Vallajeelt. Phillippa also scooped the title for overall highest scorer in the Level nine under 11 girls round. In the main levels, competition was fierce between the two gymnastics clubs, Ellan Vannin & Manx Gymnastics. The award for overall level 9 highest score of the day went to Under 9 winner Amber Sibbald of Manx Gymnastics. Level 8 was again a benefit for MG with the Under 13 boys winner Kunal Patel this time having the highest score in the level. Amy Moore, the under nine winner and Rheyan Sharpe over 13 both of Ellan Vannin in shared the honours in the level 7 overall competition, and in Level 6 the highest round of the day went to Sammy Quinn, the sole competitor in over 13 girls.

Finally th e level 5 competition, hel for the first time this year, the overall winner was Laura Keill of Ellan Vannin, who also took the Over 11 girls title.
