Island gymnastics champions crowned                    October 2007

A superb competition sponsored by Lloyds TSB saw reigning Island Champion Olivia Curran retain her title.

Olivia (MG) was pushed all the way by Sapphire Scott (MG). Olivia took two apparatus gold medals on Asymmetric Bars & Beam, with Sapphire taking the honours on Vault & Floor, finally the higher content counted for Olivia giving her a score of 46.3 to take the title of over 13 and Women’s Champion, edging out Sapphire’s 44.5 for the overall silver. Katie Norman (MG) performed consistently with silver on floor to take the overall bronze.

 

 

 

 

 

The under 13 competition, consistency again proved important with Grace Harrison (MG) take gold on beam with Vault, Beam & Floor silver helping her take the age group Island Championship with score of 45.1. Nicole Thacker (EV) peaked with gold on A-bar to claim the silver with 42.05. Tegan Dixon (MG) took the overall bronze; Lyndsey Beynon (MG) also deserving acclaim with Vault & Floor gold.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

10 girls competed at under 11 with the championship being claimed by Rebecca Johnson (MG) with a score of 44.65; gold on Vault & Bars being her best pieces. Samantha Crowe (MG) took silver on vault & bronze for Beam to score 42.4, marginally pipping Emily Munro (MG) on 42.2. Emily took the gold for Floor & Vault bronze. Gold on beam went to Nicole Burns of MG.

 

 

 

 

 

 

The biggest field of 13 in under 9 saw Kaitlin Kneen (EV) become Island Champion, scoring a total of 45.2 over 4 pieces including a gold on Bars and bronze on Beam. Steady all around performances with gold on beam saw Ellie Gilson (MG) come home 2nd on 44.0, with Ciara Goddard (MG) taking the bronze. Tara Donnelly (MG) won the gold for Vault, with Gabriella Hay (EV) taking the floor gold.

 

 

 

 

 

 

The youngest of the Island championships for under 7’s was won by Sinead Hands (EV) with 1 gold & three silvers giving her a score of 45.825. Two golds helped Chloe Donnelly to 2nd overall with Chloe MacDonald (EV) taking bronze.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

A novice competition also took place on Saturday resulting in a win for Rhyanne Hancock (MG) with 2 apparatus golds from Stacey Saltwell (EV) in silver and Alex Hardman (MG) bronze. The Novice under 11 run concurrently resulted in a victory for Laura Dooley (EV), also taking 2 apparatus victories ahead of Chelsea Oates and Emma Richardson (both EV)

 

 

The IOM Gymnastics association would like to thank everyone who helped make the competitions such a success and looks forward to the next major event, the IOM Invitational competition over the weekend of the 10/11th November.
